After searching quietly after registering here, I still find nothing about what protection is offered here for material posted by aspiring authors or artists. Should we acquire the copyright prior to posting here or does the post with date alone serve well enough for a temporary copyright?

thanks bunches

I hear conflicting info.

On one hand as soon as an author/inventor etc makes or writes their original creation it is automatically copyrighted.
On the other hand I hear any original idea has to be registered officially through copyright 'people'(which I assume has a price attatched to it)

If you find anything out for certain please let me know.

Section IID....I am no legal authority for certain....but does this state that I waive my rights when Able2know has it published on this website?

Muddy waters make it difficult to see clearly ahead to successful publishing.

Material girl.....hello. Copyrighting at the Library of Congress does cost, but it is not expensive. Google it and learn from them directly. It is a safe site. Well, as safe as our government is at present. Smile

A temporary copyright is one that has a dated means unable to be tampered with. This is getting more and more difficult to prove in any court of law, so a registered copyright from LOC is the best thing to have when exposing your work publicly. When registering my books, I take a day off from work and drive to Washington, DC and have a registration effective instantly while waiting for the official registration number. If unable to do it personally, US mail is the other route.

Remember, just because you have said it, written it, and typed it, does not make is safe or uniquely yours if someone else beats you to the copyright.

a "copyright" is a legal registration document with a NUMBER after submitting a work to be on file with the Library of Congress. They require hard copies, no electronic submissions. It is protection legally against anyone trying to steal an artist's work before they can gain recognition and publishing.

I think you about got it with, "I thought of this so dont nick it"

Say, you are from the UK? I have a dear friend who lives in Wales. (nice....I did not spell it with an "h")

Wow..sorry but I am unfamiliar with UK laws of copyrighting. I assumed the laws were basically the same world wide.

To copyright my books so far have been about $35 each no matter the size of the book. So, it is best to submit a completed work rather than each poem, story or partial book.

I still have reservations about posting my work on any public domain such as these forums because if legal problems arise later, they can cause problems in getting a work published. This is why I asked the administration here about this situation before I go posting my writings for feedback and critique.

If you would like to exchange email, material girl, mine is [email protected] and you are welcome to write anytime.

When you create something copyrightable, it is automatically copywrited at the time of creation.

Copyright is inherent.

You don't waive your copyright. You grant Able2Know a perpetual license to display it.

When you post here, you obviously intend for it to be displayed on Able2Know, and that clause is there only to make clear that you can't post something here and then sue us for copyright infringement for displaying it.

So the bottom line in plain english is that by posting your work here, you give us the right to display your work.

Hey Craven, thanks for clearing that up for me.

Now, I feel free to post my works here without reservations.

The instant copyright aspect, however, is another situation. I have spoken personally with those in the Library of Congress.....and that is not a vanity bragging.....just that I was told that a dated document is a temporary copyright, but a reciept from LOC gives us a "legal document more easily used in a court of law." It is not a matter of who wrote it first as much as who can prove it!!

LOL....so you invented the cordless extension cord? cute.....I have told many that I invented the "Wine Cooler" back when I was a teen ager. And I did! Of course mine was not a flavored malt beverage, but a true Wine mixed with seven up or sprite. (wink) Mom never missed the little bit of wine............or at least she never said she did.

Thanks again for the info.
