One day

The older twin was born just before midnight on the day in the fall when clocks are set back, the younger twin was born just after midnight, on the next day.

The other day,

The twins mother was traveling east over the international date line when the twins were born. The older was borns on the tomottow side of the date line, the younger born on the today side.

Putting both of these together makes the older twin have a birthday two days after his 'younger' brother.

because the twin is the twin of the friend...not the friend's son

I'm not completely convinced that it would happen either, but a combination of daylight savings fall back and the International Date Line could cause 25 hours to be lost from the calendar. If the first twin is born just before midnight, the second twin could be borne just after eleven PM two days before.

It would require a local, moving maternity ward attached to a fixed calendar,

The only other possibility is Mr. Peabody's Way Back Machine, and that was a cartoon.

Close, very close.

Older twin born early 1st March
Mother crosses the international date line
Younger twin born Feb 28th in a leap year
Younger twin celebrates her birthday 2 days before the older twin Shocked

The post office delayed the 2nd invitation.

They split up the celebrations so that each twin can have their own special day.

(Both seem technically correct due to the wording of the riddle, but Try has the "right" answer.)

Irish Twins - two siblings born to the same parents within one year of each other. The older twin could have been born, and 363 days later his younger brother is born - his Irish Twin.

Google it if ye doubt the claim!

thanks for this new knowlege

but they are not true twins
it's only expression to refer to the narrow period between their parity
