The thing is those bridges have been there longer than those trucks have existed. Why didn't the manufacturers take it into consideration?

Why didn't the truck drivers a) lower the booms (or whatever they are) and b) remember the height of their vehicle? They could take taken a different route. Imagine the insurance claims.
