Happy birthday, Nelson Mandela! May you have many more healthy, happy & productive years.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a Mandela birthday book for this year, but here's one from a couple of years ago:

Anyway, would you like to send an A2K message to Nelson Mandela? Please feel free to do so below:

Remember this song from a long, long time ago?:

Free Nelson Mandela
Free, Free, Free, Nelson Mandela
Free Nelson Mandela
Twenty-one years in captivity
His shoes too small to fit his feet
His body abused but his mind is still free
Are you so blind that you cannot see

I say Free Nelson Mandela
I'm begging you
Free Nelson Mandela

He pleaded the causes of the ANC
Only one man in a large army
Are you so blind that you cannot see
Are you so deaf that you cannot hear his plea

Free Nelson Mandela
I'm begging you Free Nelson Mandela

Twenty-one years in captivity
Are you so blind that you cannot see
Are you so deaf that you cannot hear
Are you so dumb that you cannot speak

I say Free Nelson Mandela
I'm begging you
Oh free Nelson Mandela, free
Nelson Mandela I'm begging you
begging you Please free Nelson Mandela
free Nelson Mandela
I'm telling you, you've got to free Nelson Mandela

I'm more than a little curious to know how Americans see Nelson Mandela. To me, he's a revered survivor & hero. But then, I'm wondering if the stories of the struggle for black independence in Sth Africa were as closely followed in the US as here in Oz & the UK? Once, on Abuzz, I attempted to start a celebratory discussion of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. A wonderfully brave, inspiring & humorous man, in the face of such adversity. Not one response. Couldn't figure it out, really... Confused

In America nelson mandela was a line in a dance tune.Thats about it.We were like another planet we didn't know and therefore. didn't care what happened in the rest of the world.

I remember I watched Nelson Mandela coming out of the prison about fifteen years ago on the sat TV live. It was the breakthrough of the history.
Cogratulations, Nelson Mandela.
