Hello,
I am planning to go to Australia either in the coming november or january, and I am wondering what the employment prospects are for a backpacker. I have experience only as a busboy, and would be on the working holiday visa. I plan on spending 9 months to a year in Australia.
I would look for jobs mostly in the restaurant or service industry, or else in fruit and berry picking. What are these jobs like in australia, in terms of availability, salary, working conditions and willingness to hire backpackers.
I would also very much appreciate anyone with specifics on where jobs are available when, eg. perth tends to have grape picking jobs in march, or sydney's hospitality industry booms around january and thats when they need workers, or any types of information like that.

I'm not sure so much as WHAT jobs are available for a backpacker - but one thing you do need are GOOD references from past employers - and a lot of experience. Generally the job market is very very competitive at the moment and (I don't know where you are from) but unless you have some excellent experience and knowledge, employers prefer a local who hopefully can stay for the long term.

do work through that first site though it's the federal govt one and has a lot of information for your specific situation.
