Can someone tell me if the Painting „ A dance in the country“ by Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo is finished or unfinished? It seems to me that the figures on the wall and behind the window are unfinished.
Id agree, there seems to be at least two areas of alla prima on thecanvas that need color.
Someotimes that was fashionable in certain artists quivers

Since he lived for another 50 years after this painting was done I think we can assume he was satisfied with it and considered it "finished". There's no need to provide an equal degree of detail to background figures.
thres a number of paintings done by artists in their prime who leave an area unfinished as instructional . van Eyck had a few of hi portraits as moral "lessons"
Paintings often had several addded meanings.using visuals.
