I collect the thumbs of people that make unwelcome eye-contact.

And, I'd probably say the only other thing I "collect" would be cd's, if that counts. I buy them faster then I can listen to them.

A Typology of Collectors

Type 1.

SINGLE ITEM OR SINGLE CATEGORY COLLECTOR ( eg. collects only stamps, teddy bears,
Elvis memorabilia.)

includes:
type 1-A ( collects selectively)

type 1-B (collects voraciously ie. multiple copies, any condition,
can't say 'no' )

type 2.

MULTI-ITEM OR MULTI-CATEGORY COLLECTOR (eg. collects pigs, dolls, matchbook covers, beany babies, old watches, salt and pepper shakers etc.)

includes: type 2-A ( similar to 1-A above but multiple items)

type 2-B ( similar to 1-B above but multiple items)

type 3.

OMNIVOROUS COLLECTOR ( ie. this is your basic pack rat!)

type 4.

PASSIVE COLLECTOR. ( Technically not a collector at all in the precise sense. The passive collector 'collects' clutter. They may not search for 'stuff 'per se. They are defined by their inability to throw anything away.)

WHAT TYPE COLLECTOR ARE YOU?

Piffka - I am in the same boat but with frogs. When my kids were little we had a couple of pet ones which I quite liked so I bought a couple of ornaments. Thirty years later, I have never bought another frog but I now have 147 of them! I keep telling people that I don't collect them but they won't believe me.

Haha, I'm a passive-omnivorous-collector with type 2A tendencies.

Oh, my goodness! Don't you realize that people who are collectors are anal retentive? Now if you want to know about Freud, just ask me? Delightful person, Freud. ...but before we become too quick to dismiss him let's do a little self analysis.

I have found that all of the little trinkets that I have kept (not collected) have collected dust.

Love, silver and crystal, refract the light. Gold is totally dull. Ever wet the rim of perfect crystal and heard it sing? It sings and it rings...Ever heard a note so penetrating that it will shatter stem ware?

Hey, dyslexia and JLNobody, You wanted philosophy. Here's philosophy. The most beautiful of fragile things are easily broken, while the peasants' crockery and the pewter withstand the weather quite well.

and then the converse needs addressing. The most sturdy of statues crumble in the desert storm.
The coldest of fires often serve to keep us warm.
The amphora lies preserved beneath the sea.
While all that's left on earth is you and me.

All right! All right! so you caught me in a poetic mood tonight. So what! Laughing

Well, it looks like you're stuck in zebra hell, lol!

I envy you as well. I only have one set of crystal wine glasses that I do use when I break out my homemade wine.

Wow!!! I'd love to see your collection :-)

There are so many things that people can collect and it is pretty interesting to find out what others collect ;-)

I collect CDs as well, but I just started so my collection is rather small at the moment.

Eve

I buy CD's and my kids steal them all. I had to threaten physical violence to get back my new Santana "Shaman" CD.

Littlek - honest chuckle on that one. Smile

My roomate thinks my room is a free Newbury Comics.

I'll get in his car and see a stack of my cd's sitting on the seat. Bastard.

Tell your roomate to give me a call and tell him that I'll give him a few bucks for some CD's.

I can get them cheaper on ebay and I'm sure you don't have any Keith Urban in your collection.

Wilso
Wow! I don't think I ever met anyone that didn't collect something.

jjorge - phew, thanks man...... <breathing>. Actually, I've been this way for as long as I remember, so I'd say I've already long since given in.
