Oh no! I am so sorry to hear about Gus. Yes, Midnight will grieve. Please make sure that Midnight does not stop eating or drinking water! If he does this for two days or more his kidneys will shut down. A cat can grieve themself to death in a very short period of time. Fortunately, he has you there and can give him comfort, so he will probably get through it just fine. Just wanted to give you a heads up on that.

If you will check out the Who Is Responsible for the Death of This Cat, you will see I recently have gone through the same kind of a situation and many posters on the forums helped me through that situation. I hope you find comfort soon and again, I am sorry for your loss.

He's the spitting image (right down to the stare!) of a much loved, now passed-on feline friend of mine, Region. He used to scare the living daylights out of small children & old folk, but I just loved him! He was special.
