Hi!
I'm writing a story that takes place in the States. Now, I don't live there. Where I live we have these small stores that sell mostly food and drinks but they're only open at night. Like, from 8pm 'till 6am or something. It's for people who forgot to go shopping, or for people who want to buy something before going out at night, or whatever.
My question, is this a thing in the US? And if so, what do you guys call it?
Huge thank you to anyone who can answer me!

@CuriousWriter,
I do live in the states, but in a fairly small town. This doesn't sound familiar to me, unless you are talking about convenience stores, which doesn't really seem to apply.
@roger,
It's possible that it simply isn't a thing over there. Convenience stores aren't exactly what I mean, but thanks!
@CuriousWriter,
It sounds like you
are describing convenience stores. They don't have to be chains, like 7-Eleven; many are independently owned, one-of-a-kind shops, especially in older neighbourhoods. But yes, practically all towns over a certain size have small all-night or late-night stores as you describe.
@CuriousWriter,
Call it an all niter and slip some romance into the story.
