Oh really!

Is that written is some book somewhere????

One most assuredly CAN have no belief system....and I am one who does not have a belief system.

Try to deal with that....rather than trying to remake reality.

then your belief system is that you believe in nothing, which is a belief system.

No, Clear...I do not "believe in nothing."

There is a difference between "I have no belief system"...and "I believe in nothing."

See if you can get someone to explain it to you.

Okay, so how did you come to your non-belief system then? What were some of the things that made you a non-believer?

I simply decided to be truthful with myself....and with everyone around me.

I KNOW I do not KNOW what the Ultimate REALITY of existence is...and I KNOW I do not have enough unambiguous evidence upon which to base a meaningful guess.

I decided to acknowledge that.

Once you stop making guesses about those things for which there is not sufficient unambiguous evidence upon which to base a meaningful guess...you stop the "believing" bullshyt.

A belief, after all, is merely a guess that is designated a "belief"....mostly to disguise the fact that it is only a guess.

Do you acknowledge that someone else may know what the Ultimate Reality of existence is?

Try this:

There are some atheists who assert:

"I do not believe in God."

There are some atheists who assert:

"I believe there is no God."

One...the latter....is an expression of "belief." It is part of a belief system.

The other...the former....is not an expression of belief at all. It merely conveys the message that the person does not "believe" in a God.

I am an agnostic.

I can easily identify with the notion expressed in the former....and I can tell you that I do not "believe" in any gods. I also do not "believe" there are no gods.

I do not have any guesses....or beliefs....in this area.

"i don't believe that there are no gods" means that you believe that there are gods. its a double negative.

IT came to ME.

I found it next to a Dumpster in 1975. Someone threw away a perfectly good one, and I claimed it. Cool

My story is pretty close to yours kicky...as a kid, church every Sunday, confirmation, communion, and bible reading regularly. Although I no longer attend church, I still have spiritual ties to God.

fine if he doesn't have any guesses or beliefs in this area then he doesn't have a belief system. this thread is about how you came to one.

Oh, my goodness. At least Setanta has maintained his sense of the ridiculous.

Almost every dog that I every owned, crawled off to die. Let us hope that life can be that simple.

Only if you have trouble with the language.

I do not "believe" there is a God.

I do not "believe" there are no gods.

I simply do not do any "believing" in this area.

Okay, I understand that, but how did you come to that point? How did your beliefs or lack of beliefs, evolve to what they are now? Were you a religious man at one time? Was there something that happened specifically that led you to decide to acknowledge the truth that you see?

Just wondering, because you have such a damned interesting point of view on these matters.
