Can we detect quantum waves while they are happening?

Is it always after-the-fact that we deduce a wave occurred? I suspect superposition, entanglement, and tunneling are only unobservable quantum wave events, no duality until wave collapse. I also think Dark Matter is only an unobservable quantum wave event. There isn't a rule that says duality has be active during the entire life of a particle.
