Hi, I just saw this phrase in English Bites and watched the video.
Address is:
http://abcasiapacific.com/englishbites/stories/s1387347.htm#4

Can anyone tell me what a famous event 'Eureka Stockade' indicates?

Oh, by the way, I am from China, currently learning in Melbourne:)

Why is the article saying that the Eureka symbolize different thing from different view? Like rebellion, a demand for a fair go, or a revolution?

There are many different interpretations of the rebellion. But essentially a group of miners (who were from many nations) on the goldfields in Ballarat, Victoria, resisted government oppression and refused to pay high fees for their mining licences. They set up a stockade and held out against the military sent by the colonial government. I should know more about it but I don't but I'm sure that someone else here will be able to help with more information for you.

Probably the difference the article is pointing out is that this rebellion was essentially economic and - for want of a better word - selfish. It wasn't about achieving human rights it was basically a bunch of people who were angry at having to give the government too much money. Others may have a different viewpoint though.

The Eureka Stockade has remained a potent Australian symbol of the ordinary workers' fight against repressive authority ...
& the Eureka flag has become the emblem of a number 'revolutionary' political organizations since that time.

(Hello, wuxuanzheng, & welcome to A2K! I hope you're enjoying your time in Melbourne! Very Happy )

Oh, I see.
May I say that actually this is not a big event, but just because Australia seldom happened this sort of fight, this event was exaggerated and became memorial?

It is seen as a revolt against unreasonable authority (government) by workers, wuxuanzheng.

Many would argue that our history is not "flat" at all, wuxuanzheng. Smile Convicts & penal settlements, aboriginal displacement, a long tradition of worker struggle, amongst other things. But I know what you mean. Many countries have faced much bigger & more frequent upheavals. Sad

Smile msolga, Flash is the sofeware that used to create animation, like all the flash animation website you see on the Internet. It is becoming popular for its rich animation and relative small file size.

If you would like to enjoy Flash site, this site is the best place you can go:

We do indeed have a "flat" history. Not for us the upheavals that mark history in other countries. We're lucky in that way.
