In the 20th century what links a sandy place, two household managers, a hypnotist,a prince, a servant, a sweetheart,a hairdresser, a whistle-blower, a soldier, and someone whose instructions must be obeyed?

It sounds like something from Commedia dell'arte.
At first I thought it might be Fawlty Towers, but I'll say Monty Python because they all have to be in there somewhere.
