Melbourne - which suburb is affordable for family

Hi all,

I am moving to Melbourne in a few months from UK. I have no idea which suburb is good for a young family.

I want to have access to parklands/nature (for the kids) and be within easy commuting/transport links to CBD.

I want to spend about AUD$250k to $350K on buying a house. Is it possible to have a four bedroom home for this amount? I have looked on realestate.com.au, but I don't know which suburb to narrow it down to!

Also, can someone give me an indication if a AUD$100k per year salary is good in terms of quality of life for Melbourne.

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

I am form Venezuela, going through the migration process to move to Australia next year. I can“t answer your queries as I have never been to Australia, but the link http://britishexpats.com has lots of info about australia and there a lots of british people who chat and post messages in the forum. You may find useful information and I am sure somebody out there in the forum or chat room could give you the information you need about melbourne.

Also, somebody in the britishexpats forum posted the following links that may help you:

Go Matilda
http://www.gomatilda.com
Migration, businesses for sale, rent, etc. Again, more Brit-oriented.
http://www.gomatildaforums.com
These are their forums - migration stuff and regional communities - Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and others. Registration needed for the regional community forums. These are slightly less than British Expats but still very informative.

Real estate. To get an idea about prices, quality, etc.

2 largest ones:
http://www.domain.com.au
http://www.realestate.com.au
Detailed descriptions, photos.

This one is not bad either:
http://www.realestateview.com.au
It's smaller but quicker and still comprehensive. There is a nice option of Quick List.

Hope it helps!
Very Happy

Hello, Alex! Very Happy

Welcome.

I'm from Melbourne, so if you have any specific questions, ask & I'll answer if I can.

There are a few "moving to Melbourne" threads already which could cover some of the information you require. You'll find them in the "Australia" forum. (Under "forums" -at the top of the page)

I'd say a wage of $100 k is pretty healthy! Very Happy
