A man, for reference sake called Bob was talking to his secretary who again for reference sake shall be called Shirley about his three daughters. He tells her she gets a raise if she can tell him their ages. The clues he gives her are as follows... Their ages multiply together to equal 36, and they add up to be the first two digits in his license plate. Shirley knows the license plate number ... you do not. She then , after careful deliberation tells him the she needs more information to solve this tricky riddle. He agrees and states simply, "My oldest daughter likes strawberry ice cream." Immediately Shirley sais, "ah hah!" ... She has found their ages ... can you?

Welcome Zordonia, great first post. Cool

The factorizations of 36: (36,1,1), (18,2,1), (9,4,1),(9,2,2), (6,6,1), (6,3,2), (4,3,3).
All these add to distinct sums except 9+2+2 = 6+6+1 = 13.
That must be the first 2 digits of the license plate.

I will leave it to others to come up with the ages. (Think twins) Laughing

Ah, that's why "oldest daughter" is pertinent.

1*2*2*3*3=36

possibilities for girls ages

1,2,18 1+2+18=21
1,4,9 1+4+9=14
1,6,6 1+6+8=13
2,2,9 2+2+9=13
2,3,6 2+3+6=11
4,3,3 4+3+3=10

the only one that doesn't add up to a unique sum is 1,6,6 and 2,2,9
by saying "my oldest daughter" implies that the oldest is not a twin
so the girls ages are 2,2,& 9
