Hello. As of the time of the posting of this it is Labor Day Weekend 2019. Are you doing anything special for the holiday? I'm probably not. I have work to do. I have a lot of housework to do, and I'm going to do some job training on my PC. What about you? I am curious- please help. Thank you.
I am actually traveling on business tomorrow, to go to a week-long conference in my field.
I'm gonna post some items I haven't gotten around to inventorying on ebay.
Prepare some frames I got shipped to me the other day by putting some scrapbook sheets in them for cheap art to put in the bedrooms in Mexico casa, to get it ready for some short term rentals during the season.
Maybe sign myself into grubhub and make deliveries for an hour or 2.
Maybe shave my legs so I can go to the pool.
If so, go to the pool.
Netflix binge
Maybe all or some or none of the above.
Nothing big, just some fun little things.
Canoeing with my son Rhys
Having my grandsons Max (5) and Larry (3) over
Fantasy Football Draft (yeah, I know, I have no life)
Seasons 52 for restaurant week
Patching and overseeding parts of my front yard
Adding asters to autumn garden
Quick funny (to me) story from yesterday.
I drove out to the post office to drop off some packages. As long as I was driving, I turn on the GH app to see if I could make a few bucks at the same time.
I get an order to pick up at Schlotzskys. I thought it was strange because it was for one small size sandwich, delivered maybe 4 miles from the deli, and I was going to make more than $10. Well good for me. Hey big spender.
I go inside the deli and they tell me it'll be ready in 2 minutes. The manager, a guy in his 40's apologized saying "This person couldn't understand how the app worked to take off lettuce, put something else on. She's called here 3 times since placing the order to make changes".
I said "jeez, thanks for the heads up. I'll be prepared for anything when I get there."
We then shared a look where he said "batshit crazy" and I said "gotcha"
Anyway I get there, walk up to the house, in a real Beaver Cleaver, Sheriff Andy Taylor, Richie Cunningham type neighborhood. The lights are all out, but there 3 vehicles in the driveway. I ring the bell, wait....knock on the door, wait.... in my side vision I see the curtain next to the door move, and I politely pretend not to notice.
Finally this woman opens the door and peers out. I say, "Hi Ellen. Here's your grubhub delivery."
"Who are you?" (very suspiciously)
Me, sure I had the right house number, but still.... said "Oh, are you Ellen?"
"Yeeeeeeeeees?"
Well here's your order.
"What do you mean" again looking at me like I'm going to pull a knife.
Did you place an order for a meal from Schlotzskys?
"Yeeeeeeeees?"
Here it is.
"But what are you doing here?"
Me: Bringing it to you.
All the while, she's been staring at the bag that has Schlotzskys logo on it, like it was a bomb about to go off.
She finally reaches out a tentative hand and takes the bag.
I really wanted to go back around to the deli and tell the manager about this encounter.
You mean I missed Labor day again?
@bobsal u1553115,
If I may ask, what country are you from?
Labor Day was September 2 here in the U.S.

It wasn't anywhere else. It's an American holiday, other countries don't celebrate it.
We have the last Monday in August off but it's called August Bank Holiday Monday, not Labour Day.
@izzythepush,
We have Labour Day on the 2nd Monday in March in Victoria.
Other states and territories have it on various other dates.
@cherrie,
Well that's somewhere. Sorry if I sounded a bit knowitall, but the OP has a very peculiar view of the World, seeing everything as a foreign version of something American.
I was wanting to put him right.
@izzythepush,
It's all good, I didn't take it as you being a knowitall.
I suppose it was more directed at Goldman who doesn't seem to realise that there is a big wide world outside the US.
Then what do you two do for the 4th of July?
@chai2,
I was marking examination scripts.
@chai2,
On the 4th of July I do the same sort of things that you do on the 26th of January.
@cherrie,
You commemorate the assassination of Ali and the end of the Rashidun Caliphate?
@izzythepush,
Are you saying that you don't?
@izzythepush,
No, that would be on January 26th.
@izzythepush,
No. I should have qualified
AMERICANS when I posted this thread.
I forgot there are foreigners on this site.
I should have titled the thread:
"Americans: Doing anything special for Labor Day 2019?"

I do not know too much about foreign culture. I have never been outside of the U.S. My knowledge of foreign culture is limited to what I see on TV on shows, ads and movies, or in books and magazines and other periodicals, in or at public facilities such as libraries or museums or what I see and/or hear online.
I am aware of the fact that much of the foreign world
IS westernized, but I do not automatically assume that everything in American culture is going to have some foreign counterpart.
@JGoldman10,
I'm no foreigner. I'm English, this is a thread in English after all.
If anyone is the foreigner it's you.
