I've already solved this with help from my dad, but I was wondering if anyone could explain how it works. My dad had to get the number after the mystery number to figure it out, but how can it get solved without knowing what the number after the mystery number is?

3 9 27 Z (difference of successive terms from preceding line)
Note that the last line consists of powers of 3. Therefore, Z is 81, which means Y is 41+81 = 122. Therefore, X is 5740*122 = 700280.
Ah, now I get how it works. Now I know why it says 3 Brains Deep
