Are the English word knee and the English word generation cognate because of the Latin word genu "knee" in the Genetive case has the form genus and this is the case birth (the generation of the new case)?

Generation, generic, generate, genesis, all refer to source or beginning. The Latin root is generare.

Genus is Greek for "kind". The fact that one case of a Latin word is written the same way is just an accident. "To genuflect" means to bend the knee, but it has no relation to a beginning.
