Help please (See it with the naked eye, if...)

You can see it with the naked eye....if you put this in a barrel it makes it lighter...if you take this out...it makes it heavier....what is it?


Does anyone know the answer please?

If you put a hole in a barrel it will be lighter, if you put a bung in the hole it will be heavier.
