Rachel decided to give away her character doll collection. She gave 10% to her friend Jamie, 10% to Kelin, 10% to Beverly and 20% to the local children's shelter. She decided to keep 10 dolls for herself, which meant she had 40 dolls left to sell.
How many dolls did she start with?
100
jamie 10% = 10
kelin 10% = 10
bev 10% = 10
shelter20%= 20
herself 10dolls leaving 40
Method FWIW........
n dolls to start with
10n/100 + 10n/100 + 10n/100 + 20n/100 + 10 = n - 40
Hence n = 100
