I want to make one small clarification: my post was ignored since it was considered being biased. But I did not mean that all the Muslim expatriates were terrorists. Majority are not, their main purpose of immigration was improvement of their economic status. But their public organizations of these people are often abused by the Al Qaeda and other terror groups agents for recruiting the performers of violent attack. Statistically, it is always possible to find people that are psychologically ready to be involved in terror not only among Muslims, but Al Qaeda concentartes its efforts on the people of their faith. Therefore I pointed on necessity of monitoring of the Muslim immigrants' organizations.

I'm waiting, breathless, for my kit to arrive.

I hope it's got one of those questionnaires to use - like the bomb threat sheet in the phone book, in one place I worked. They caused much hilarity:
Where is the bomb?
What time is it set to go off?
Why did you plant the bomb?
What is your name?
What is the bomb made of?

and so on for 20 questions.... Confused

Steissd - Aussies knew they were targets, after our intervention in Timor, and this was confirmed by the Bali bombing. We're not altogether unaware, but this is not a police state. My guess would be that we are taking all sensible precautions, without advertising them. Indeed, the Indonesians have complained about what they see is unfair treatment of some of their nationals living in Australia. It's a fine line. Most Aussies regard freedom as the most important thing.

And our government is trying very hard to destroy as many of those freedoms as they can.

Steissd: April 19, 1995, around 9:03 a.m., just after parents dropped their children off at day care at the Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, the unthinkable happened.
A massive bomb inside a rental truck exploded, blowing half of the nine-story building into oblivion.
A stunned nation watched as the bodies of men, women, and children were pulled from the rubble for nearly two weeks. When the smoke cleared and the exhausted rescue workers packed up and left, 168 people were dead. "Car bombings are the tool of Islamic fundamentalists," the FBI said.
Police and customs officials stopped and questioned Arab-looking people, until it became clear that the bombing was not the work of international terrorists, but American ones. A white, sandy-haired former U.S. Army sergeant was not the suspect investigators were looking for after the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on April 19, 1995 -

OK, one terror attack performed by the U.S. Christian vs. numerous terror attacks performed by Muslims...

steissd - to be quite honest, i am much more leery of many christians i've worked with, than any muslim i've ever worked with. the muslims i have worked with have, without exception, been loving, peaceful, family-oriented people, extraordinarily kind. I can not say that of all the christians i have met.

Based on my personal experience - if i were to look at no other information, i'd have to say muslims are all good, some christians are good and some are bad, and many christians cannot be trusted. Clearly, that wouldn't be a sensible way to look at the world.

We can all debate this back and forth. i think the point for me is, not to believe everything i read, to trust my instincts about individual people and not to brush any group with a wide stroke. I think that will make my experience of life more successful.

Hmmm, would you feel that way if you were living in Israel. Steissd is obviously leery of Muslims since he is from a country that has received the brunt of the Muslim/Arab suicide bombings. Surely if your city had been attacked multiple times by the same group... it would make you somewhat suspicious?

I thought it was determined that the Bali bombing was a mistaken target... the terrorists thought they were going for an American club -- they didn't mean to kill so many Aussies.

Two of my work mates attended the sevens Rugby League competition at the weekend. There was 50 000 people attended over the 2 days and according to them one of the 2 biggest cheers of the tournament was for the team from Lebanon.

So, Dlowan, do you really think that Muslim terror is not dangerous to your country, that their targets are only USA and Israel?

I do think fundamentalist Islamic terror is something of a threat to Australia, of course.

EhBeth, I am sure that majority of Muslims are not involved in the terror activities. But, from the other side, majority of those that are involved, are Muslims.

I just received the following message by email.

As you are probably aware, over the next fortnight the Federal
Government is sending a mailout to every household in Australia. In this
pack is a letter from our illustrious Prime Minister, a booklet on how
to help the government "fight terrorism" and a fridge magnet (!)

Today, Brisbane's Lord Mayor, Jim Soorley, made the eminently sensible
suggestion that Australians who did not support the Howard government's
backing of America's war should simply return the package to sender.

I, for one, think it's a fantastic opportunity to show Mr Howard that
not all Australians think the way he does. If you agree as well, I urge
you to:

1. Watch out for the package when it arrives, mark it "Return to Sender"
and drop it in the nearest mailbox. You may also want to add a personal
anti-war message to it.

2. Please forward this email to as many people as you think might be
interested in joining this protest. Mr Howard's mailout is already on
its way to practically every Australian - but email can still beat it!
