Ryan bought a certain number of plants for his garden. In the morning, he planted half of what he bought plus 10 plants. In the afternoon, he planted half of what was left plus 5 plants. Feeling tired, he left the rest until the next day, when he planted half of what was left. He then had 5 plants that were in bad shape.
How many plants did he start with?
This leaves us with a couple of questions. Were the bad plants planted or unplanted? Did he have any good plants left unplanted at that point?
If we assume he has 2 good plants and 5 bad ones left unplanted then he started with 96 plants. ;-)
80
He planted 50, 20, and five. That left five unplanted that were in bad shape.
