Good salt water taffy is out there. Depending on the local source of the store they're made in.

I know I am odd, but it seems that many of these candies you mention are ones that I really really like, for instance: cinnamon - love anything with this flavor; wintergreen - my favorite of the peppermint group; and real black licorice I adore.

The one I think should be the evilest is candy cigarettes - not only do these things taste horrible - but for obvious reasons what they represent. I do remember getting them when I was a kind and you would blow on them in your mouth and what looked like smoke would come out and then you would eat this stick.

And these things - whoever would think they are good?

That's a mighty ugly IMG link. What is it supposed to be an image of?

@tsarstepan,
That's an American seaside thing. Over here we've got sticks of rock.

http://projectbritain.com/customs/questions/images/clothes/rock.jpg

Usually the name of the resort runs through.

To be honest it's not worth the song and dance.

Just a PSA for those that likeblack licorice

I seem to remember that liking or disliking licorice, along with things like cilantro and truffle (the mushroom), is genetic?

I've read downers of licorice before. But I only eat a little a few times a year, so it's no biggie.

@chai2,
You might want to send that link to The Daily Mail, or Russell Howard.

@tsarstepan,
these are horrible candies - they are sliced to resemble slices of various fruits that are jelly like dipped in sugar. They are just as horrible to eat as they are to view.

For many years I would eat the horriblest, nastiest, candy offered me, if it was all that was available. I had no self control, because back then, any candy was better than no candy. These days, I rarely eat any, and the stuff I detest gets the cold shoulder.

@izzythepush,
Re the licorice, wasn't so much addressing the cancer aspect, but arrhythmias.

Heart patients are advised not to eat it.

Not even dipped in chocolate.

Disgusting stuff.

@neptuneblue,
Have you had them where the package is left open until they're, um, crispyish? Or do you only eat them fresh from the package?

(and try 'em with Nutella!)

@chai2,
Well I suppose that may partially account for my hypokalemia. Then again, my potassium levels have always been low, even sans licorice.

Seriously though, once I learned their could be dangerous repercussions for over consumption, I scaled it back.

Add me to the list. I like cinnamon, licorice and peppermint. No to the Wintergreen though.
