You might like to try the Darlinghurst Police, I think they cover the areas you've asked about. I can't help you with with any more specifics as I work in South Australia and I'm not sure if anyone from NSW Police is a member here.

Yes I want to relocate to these areas but you hear a lot about the bad reputation of Oxford Street / William Street
There used to be, a few years ago, crime stat. tables on www.smh.com.au ("Sydney Morning Herald") per suburb in the real estate section but I couldn't find it this time

I see the Herald every day, and haven't seen that lately - perhaps it was an occasional thing.

The NSW police do hold detailed crime statistics on a Local Area Command basis and I think they may be available to the public. Perhaps if you contact the LAC for the area (I think it's Darlinghurst but I'm not sure as I'm in SA) they should be able to let you know.
