Bye Bye Birdie was a parody of Conway Twitty, wasn't it?

It was a musical based on Elvis being drafted. Conrad Birdie is an Elvis-type about to go into the army and has a contest to pick a girl who will receive his last kiss on the Ed Sullivan show before he goes away. Ann Margret wins the contest. Bobby Rydell is her jealous boyfriend. Paul Lynde is the girl's father and Dick Van Dyke is the advertising exec who thought up the contest.

I will always believe that although the play was indeed inspired by Elvis' being drafted, Conrad Birdie is a play on Conway Twittie's name, whether it was an act of the subconscious or otherwise.

My sister used to listen to Johnny Cash a lot - that kinda stuck. But when I was old enough to choose myself, it was definitely the Beatles.

Elvis. I saw him in 1956, and can't describe the effect he had on my life.
My favorite all time singer ever though is the incredible, almost a deity Jon Anderson of Yes.
Joanne Dorel, your good taste is showing.

That's tough.
Either Debbie Gibson, or Marylin Manson.

hmmmmm, the first 4-song on vinyl 45+ was by the Beatles, but my uncle bought it, so i didn't have much say in that. the first real album i bought for myself was Sweet Baby James by James Taylor, so that might have to be my pick. Gotta mull. I was awfully fond of Glen Campbell when I was in Grade 5 - i even publicly declared him to be my favourite ACTOR !!! Kids!

I've been trying to figure this out for a few days now.... I loved Donna Summer on the radio when I was a kid. I liked the Fleetwood Mac album someone brought home. I liked U2Boy and U2War that my brother used to listen to. I liked the BeeGees too. But I think my first favorite that I chose was either Jim Morrison or Ozzy Osbourne. Odd that.

Robert Plant

Charley Pride.
My uncle had 8-tracks of Pride, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass--among others in his car.
I always begged for Charley and Herb when I rode with him. Learned every word on Charley's. Must have been 7.
A black C&W singer... Have they ever had another one?
Sure did like Charley.

Man, I didn't get into Patsy Cline until Sweet Dreams, the movie with Jessica Lange and Ed Harris. She had one of the clearest voices you'd ever want to hear. Just incredible.

Johnny Cash - I saw him at the Bostonia Ballroom in El Cajon, San Diego County when I was about 15 or so, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
