The Safe Dates curriculum, recently presented at Centerburg High School, is designed to help teens recognize and avoid bullying by a dating partner. Respect for oneself and one's partner is the recurring theme of the Safe Dates lessons. The sessions at Centerburg included information about caring relationships, gender stereotypes, dating abuse red flags, characteristics of the perpetrator and victim and how to help them, and myths about rape. The culminating activity was self-defense training offered to all senior girls attending CHS.
"Since our senior girls will be leaving us and going off to a big city for college or work, we wanted to teach them some skills on how to defend themselves," said Principal John Morgan.
