Monsanto name to become Bayer

That way you will feel better about their effing seeds and poisons.

The Monsanto company name, which has become synonymous with genetically modified food and as a longstanding target of environmental activists, will disappear after the completion of its $63bn (£47bn) sale to the German company Bayer on Thursday.

Bayer, a pharmaceuticals and chemicals giant, said on Monday it would immediately retire the 117-year-old Monsanto brand name. “Bayer will remain the company name. Monsanto will no longer be a company name,” it said in a statement. “The acquired products will retain their brand names and become part of the Bayer portfolio.”

@Blickers,
Does this mean we'll be stuck taking GMO aspirin when we get a headache?

I will keep eating the GMO food and hoping that more of it gets to the starving people all over the world.

@maporsche,
I am waiting for the first company to advertise their use of science...

I believe "try" is the operative word there.

You and Edgar seem awfully needy Wink Sadly it looks like no one wants to play your game.

You left out Monsanto's favorite new technology from 20 years ago -- terminator seeds. (The Monsanto website says they made a commitment in '99 not to use this technology, but not using it goes against their commercial interest of protecting their patents.) This glorious new feature would make it impossible for farmers to plant a new crop out of seeds from the last year's crop.

@Kolyo,
I don't get your point. My post was about the benefits of science, particularly in the use of GMOs. Obviously science can be used for good or for ill. If anyone uses terminator seeds to hurt farmers or the public at large, I will join the protest. This hasn't happened yet.

My point is the knee-jerk anti-science rhetoric coming from the left.

@maxdancona,
Gee, I don't know about that. Edgar posted some information and said he would be avoiding a couple brand names, and I concurred. Then you became concerned about other names that might be on my blacklist, and I told you I would let you know if any come up. Then Edgar mentioned that someone might try to bully me. So I said that they might try.

You see that as being needy? Well, sorry. I didn't mean to mislead you into thinking that we want to pull you into "our game." But if you don't want to play this game that you believe is being played, then what are you doing here if not playing?
