Annoyed by nudity in Movies?

Whats the deal with nudity in movies?

I dont like nudity in mvies but just about every movie has it. Whats the point in nude scenes? On top of that all the girls are perfected they never have real life women with the flaws and it just makes them insecure and determined to look that way and feel worthless and ugly if they dont.

I done mind if nudity is in some movies but my issue is when it is in every movie and how some try to make it shocking.

@summerlily72,
There is nudity in movies because lots of people like to be titillated. That's how freedom works. There are a lot of movies that don't have any nudity... and there are lists of these movies on the internet. You don't have to ruin it for the rest of us.

Novels that pander
To my taste for candor
Give me a pleasure sublime
(Let's face it, I love slime.)

All books can be indecent books
Though recent books are bolder
For filth (I'm glad to say) is in
The mind of the beholder
When correctly viewed
Everything is lewd
(I could tell you things about Peter Pan
And the Wizard of Oz, there's a dirty old man!)

Who needs a hobby like tennis or philately?
I've got a hobby: rereading Lady Chatterley
But now they're trying to take it all
Away from us unless
We take a stand, and hand in hand
We fight for freedom of the press
In other words

Smut! (I love it)
Ah, the adventures of a slut
Oh, I'm a market they can't glut
I don't know what
Compares with smut

Hip hip hooray!
Let's hear it for the Supreme Court!
Don't let them take it away!

@summerlily72,
What movies are you watching?
Yes, there may be brief nudity in some movies.
You make it sound like there is excessive nudity in virtually every movie.
What movies are you watching?

@Real Music,
There is only one reason to see the movie Swordfish. (Or... is that two reasons).

Nudity can make an otherwise mediocre movie worth watching.

The one reservation I have about commercialized public nudity, whether in movies or other mediums, is if the nude persons are coerced and didn't especially wish to be on display.

@edgarblythe,
There should be protection for people who don't want to see it. I think that restricting overly sexual billboards, or daytime TV is reasonable. People who want to avoid sexual content shouldn't be bombarded with it in public spaces.

Sexual content in movies, books or magazines, where consumers pay to see it and everyone knows what they are doing, is fine.

Yes, while I don't find it morally offensive I do find it annoying. Assuming it's not an intentionally pornographic film I usually find nudity gratuitous. It's as if the director is trying to hide the fact that the movie isn't that good and thinks I'll respond positively if I get treated to some skin. Look, I'm not a goddamned voyeur. In real life, were I to come across naked people engaged in intimate activity I'd quietly excuse myself and leave the people their privacy. Even in films where the sexual tension is part of the plot there's nothing wrong with showing people heading into a bedroom and closing the door. I think we all know what's going to happen. Does it really need to be shown? Yes — for one reason; it fills the seats.

@hightor,
What's wrong with filling the seats? Entertainment is supposed to be entertaining. Making movies that people want to see is kind of the point.

There are certainly bad movies that use nudity to make them bearable (or is that bareable). Swordfish is a good example of this. Seeing Hallie Berry topless on the big screen is fully worth $8.50 in a movie that was otherwise forgettable.

There are also great movies that use nudity as an important part. The nudity in Schindler's List was not only appropriate, it was necessary to convey the complete dehumanization of the victims of the holocaust.

Sometimes the nudity is the whole point of the movie. Sirens is a great movie. It featured Elle Macphereson (who is truly stunning). This movie is about an uptight minister and his wife going to visit a movie producer to stop putting nudity in his movie. He encounters a community of libertines... his reaction to the overt sexuality and the freedom is the point of the movie.

Sometimes trash is enjoyable as trash. There is a stupid parody of teen slasher films (I forget the name). Right in the middle of the movie, the story stops... and there the producer at a desk. He explains in a deadpan that they need an 'R' rating in order to be successful, so then there is a topless woman who says "F*** you". Then the movie continues. The stupidest thing in a trashy exploitative comedy. It made me laugh.

The Terminator was awesome. I am not so titillated by male nudity, but Arnold is as good a specimen as anyone. It was not necessary per se... but it was fully appropriate in the story.

Then there are some movies that would have been much better with some nudity. Wonder Woman is a recent example of a movie that would have been livened up with more skin.

@maxdancona,
Sorry Max, but seeing some woman's chest in an otherwise execrable movie doesn't improve the film for me. I never saw Schindler's List but that's the sort of situation where I wouldn't find it objectionable — as you say it conveys dehumanization.

I think it's more like training people to expect titillation as an alternative to thoughtful experience. And car chases.

@hightor,
I don't generally go to movies for a thoughtful experience. Movies are entertainment, they are an escape. There are a few exceptions like Schindler's list (which you should see). Most movies are offering thrills, not thoughtfulness. If I want a thoughtful experience, I turn to a book.

There are lots of movies that don't have nudity. Many of them are thoughtful.

Most of us want to to be titillated one way or the other. We want to see sex, Americans blowing up alien space ships, violence, explosions, killer sharks, brutal fights. We haven't been "trained" to expect titillation... rather we as consumers we are demanding it. This is not new, people have been asking for sexually charged entertainment since Ancient Greece.

@hightor,
I am trying to think of an example of a movie that might have been ruined by nudity...

Can you give an example of a movie that you would go to for a "thoughtful experience" that had unnecessary nudity or sex? I can't think of one.

Oh yeah, when I was in the Girl Scouts our Scout leader always made sure us girls got a heavy dose of brutal fights, explosions, killer sharks and Americans blasting alien space ships into oblivion. OOPs, I almost forgot, there isn 't anything better than looking at boobs when you're a girl.

Sadly I had to wait until 2018 before I got to see real boobs like you.

@glitterbag,
Well, whoever coined the term "titillation" was some sort of marketing genius.

Seriously, I don't want to see this sort of thing. Which is why I seldom view movies at all. Problem solved.

@glitterbag,
I happen to live with a girl scout. They aren't nearly as prudish as you imply. My particular girl scout enjoys anime... these stories involve action, relationships, humor and some very dark themes of violence and sexuality. Girls don't need to be sheltered.

This isn't new ... my sisters enjoyed not only Jaws, but in the 1970s there were slasher films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre (an indulgence I could never understand).

In life there is a place for Mozart... and there is a place for Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Movies (at least in the US) are clearly marked if they have nudity/violence in them. If you are surprised by nudity in movies, it's not because no one warned you. It's easy enough to avoid those movies if that is an issue for you.
