@hightor,
What's wrong with filling the seats? Entertainment is supposed to be entertaining. Making movies that people want to see is kind of the point.
There are certainly bad movies that use nudity to make them bearable (or is that bareable).
Swordfish is a good example of this. Seeing Hallie Berry topless on the big screen is fully worth $8.50 in a movie that was otherwise forgettable.
There are also great movies that use nudity as an important part. The nudity in
Schindler's List was not only appropriate, it was necessary to convey the complete dehumanization of the victims of the holocaust.
Sometimes the nudity is the whole point of the movie.
Sirens is a great movie. It featured Elle Macphereson (who is truly stunning). This movie is about an uptight minister and his wife going to visit a movie producer to stop putting nudity in his movie. He encounters a community of libertines... his reaction to the overt sexuality and the freedom is the point of the movie.
Sometimes trash is enjoyable as trash. There is a stupid parody of teen slasher films (I forget the name). Right in the middle of the movie, the story stops... and there the producer at a desk. He explains in a deadpan that they need an 'R' rating in order to be successful, so then there is a topless woman who says "F*** you". Then the movie continues. The stupidest thing in a trashy exploitative comedy. It made me laugh.
The Terminator was awesome. I am not so titillated by male nudity, but Arnold is as good a specimen as anyone. It was not necessary per se... but it was fully appropriate in the story.
Then there are some movies that would have been much better with some nudity.
Wonder Woman is a recent example of a movie that would have been livened up with more skin.
