OK.....here's one of my son (Ellpus the Fifth).....taken when he was about two (or three?....anyway, he was small), at our friend's wedding.

He always has been a cool dude.....in my eyes, anyway.

aawwww, little boys are so cute, especially when packed
into a suit. How many children do you have, Spanky?

littlek, why? Because when my Bostonian friends saw
me wearing a NY Yankee cap, they sent me
a Red Sox one, and insisted that I switch immediately.

Thanks CJ, he is now a laid back adult, who towers over both me and my wife. We only have the one, owing to the fact that my wife had an ectopic pregnancy about a year before my son was born, so managing to have ONE child was a bit of a bonus. It was fun trying for quite a few years, but we came to accept the fact that there would be no brothers or sisters for him.

I would love to post a present day photo, but wouldn't dare, as he would get a little cross, methinks. I'll ask him, but I know what the reply will be.

The only thing I can say is that he is very much a Dermot O'Leary lookalike from Brit TV. He is always being told this, and I think it helped him in the female stakes, when he first started Uni some years ago.

The reason I posted it, is because I have been sorting through old photos over the past couple of days, found it and thought that none of his mates would recognise it, so what the hey.....

He's just got a degree in Marine Biology, and is making some money at the moment, doing anything and everything, so that he can pay for his Masters Degree, which he starts soon. As the subject is the sea, he needs to buy scuba equipment and other specialist stuff, and then pay for his trip and lodgings in the Caribbean (he thinks that is where the course will be held) so that they can study coral reefs etc.

Eventually, he wants to go as high as he can with the qualifications, and either work for a mineral/oil/hydroponics company, or lecture in Uni.

He has finally found something that he loves doing.....and that's good enough for me.

I think that most parents are proud of their kids, and I would certainly fit into that category. More than that though, I am ......relieved....that he has found his niche in life, so early on.

So many of us stumble through our twenties, in jobs that we loathe or are just simply bored with, because money has to be earned, mortgages and bills have to be paid etc...and before we know it, we have reached that age (normally mid thirties) when we say...."is this it? This isn't how I had planned my working life".

Fortunately, he was stuck in an incredibly boring job by the age of twenty, and made a decision there and then to do something about it.

Thank god for Insurance claims departments, if it wasn't for them, he would have had the same mid thirties questions.

Very true LE... so very true..

It is simple to get caught in to the " gotta pay the bills" kinda job. Espically since bills will always be there.
marine Biology? Oh wow.. I am jealous. What a facinating field. And once all is said and done, it will be a financially rewarding field as well.

Shine on proud papa. ;-)

You're not his Dutch friend are you? The one that crashed out in the spare room and peed in my art deco wardrobe?

Took all the varnish off.
