Two questions:
1. Is pride equivalent to arrogance?
2. Where is the line drawn between confidence and arrogance?
- Minha
My two answers.
1. Pride can be arrogance, but then it's called hubris.
2. Confidence becomes arrogance when you can no longer back it up.
Your pride is not arrogance until someone finds it offensive. Then it will be arrogance in his eyes.
Confidence becomes arrogance when people lose faith in you. But here also it is really the pride in your abilities people have trouble swallowing.
It's that simple. The only way to determine who is right, wether it is pride or arrogance, is to measure your abilities against eachother. A duel in other words.
I've always found it most effective to perform well and let others talk about how fabulous you are instead of talking about it yourself.
Confidence is quiet. No words needed. Arrogance is noisy, all talk, little action.
If you have to tell me how great you are, then you're probably not so great.
I have an unfortunate habit of smugly congratulating myself on a magnificent performance and then falling flat on my face.
Pride is a realistic evaluation of one's abilities.
Arrogance is assuming that your strengths automatically give you benefits that other people are not entitled to.

I don't have to tell you. I just enjoy doing it
I'm kidding. In actual fact I agree with your point.

Confidence is internal. Arrogance external.
