If someone makes several statements which you may feel are open to question, how do you "quote" them on each part of their statement with a reply of your own and keeping the comments made by both parties in the order in which they were first said?
step by step please. thank you.
Piece of cake.
Click the Quote box on the top, right corner of box containing your statement.
The reply screen opens, and the entire statement is enclosed within the correct codes.
You may comment either above or below the coded section. Do not disturb the codes.
At the bottom of the box you are working in, there are two options. Preview and Submit. Chose Preview till you get some confidence, and see your post at the very top of the screen as it will appear on forum. If it's what you want, cruise down and select Submit.
Now, within the coded area, you can eliminate extraneous material in the usual way. You can also highlight certain areas and color, bold, italicize, etc. the highlighted parts. You should definately preview your work before submitting after doing this kind of surgery.
Re: How do I reply please
This is how the codes will look in the Post a "reply box" before you submit.

Re: How do I reply please
I think Don's asking about breaking up a quote and inserting responses. If so, Don, you'll need to get a little familiar with the BBCode handles which create the quote boxes.
Basically, anything that you want to put into a Quote box needs to have
after it.
(I disabled BBCode in this post so I could show you the codes.)

...my response goes here...
Quote:how do you "quote" them on each part of their statement with a reply of your own
...my response continues...
Quote:and keeping the comments made by both parties in the order in which they were first said?
...and still continues...

Does this make sense yet?
You can click on the Quote button in the upper right corner of this post to see the BBCode handles that I added.
The next step is a little fancier.
In order to add the name of the person you're quoting, the handle
before the quote needs to look like this:

The handle at the end of the quote is the same.
Oh, cool. It worked. Thanks Mac11. Other people have explained it to me, but I could never get it until you explained it :-D
Sorry for using your response as a tool, Roger.
I'm dense, I know. I still don't know how to do it any other way than that which Roger explained. I have to quote the entire text, can't break it up. Deleting within the boxed quote is easy, but that's the extet of my knowledge and understanding.
I'm trying to learn to quote like you just did Phoenix and the way Mac did, but can this be done in the quick reply box?
Phoenix wrote:OK, let me try to explain it. You want to quote something.
So I'm trying to do this right
Phoenix wrote:You highlight and copy it.
How am I doing so far?
Phoenix wrote:You then paste it into the reply box.
Do you think I'll actually get it after all this time?
Phoenix wrote:You highlight what you have just pasted.
This is exciting :-D
Phoenix wrote:You hit the word, "quote", which is above the box.
Well, here goes nothing :-D
Oh My God!!!! I finally did it. This is soooo exciting :-D

Montana, it can be done in the quick reply box, but you have to type in the handles. (I do it all the time for the add-a-letter game.)
That's amazing Phoenix! I always use the quick reply box, but I'll be using it less now with my newly learned quoting ability, heehee :-D
