Merry: I disagree. the "good" memories would be all that kept you anchored to a human existence. The characters in Anne Rice's novels are isolated and lonely because they don't have those memories. Without all your memories, your life would be missing a key component. I'd rather hope forever and be disappointed eventually than despairing for an eternity.

Perhaps it's an individual personality thing. I know from experience that for me it's very painful to have lost someting and to keep remembering how fine it was when I had it. The bad memories aren't half as bad as the good ones.
