[answered]Can the A2K Amazon Link Be Bookmarked?

The snow is falling and I've decided to treat myself to a self-indulgent shop for second-hand paperbacks.

Since I have my wits about me this morning, I can use the A2K Amazon Link from A2K.

Sometimes my wits are frazzled. If I bookmark the A2K Amazon link in "Favorites" will my impulsive purchases be credited to A2K?

Because every so often I shop on impulse--and I'd like to be able to outwit myself.

It's easiest to go to it from the Home Page.

I know that the home page link will work.

What I'd like to know is if my bookmark was copied from the home page Amazon link will an order from my bookmark be credited to A2K?

Usually I accept the workings of computers as unfathomable, but in this case I'd really like to know.

I'm trying to figure out what you're asking. Do you mean if you reuse a link from an older order? If so, then, no, it won't carry over, far as I'm aware. It needs to give you what's called a session cookie, with the A2K account number, for us to get credit. The session cookie is automatically added when you go through the Home Page or through any of the Amazon links on the Portal. But it isn't otherwise automatically entered. If you go to www.amazon.com by just typing it into your browser, you will not get the session cookie.

First I had a computer and then I had an Amazon link. (Very useful for library requests as well as more expensive pursuits).

I have replaced the original link on my "Favorites" list with a link from A2K.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/subst/home/home.html/103-1746079-3503061

Going directly from A2K to Amazon, the link is:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/subst/home/home.html/103-1746079-3503061

Would A2K be credited with my purchases?

Well, I'll wait for Jes to answer, but I don't think so, I don't see a2k in the link...
I don't really understand why you don't want to use the Homepage Amazon link, it's easy..

Nope. It needs to have our Amazon account number in it, which I can't recall (and it's transient in the link, anyway), but able2know is in the account number.

The link redirects, and the page you land on is not the link that credits the account.

So you need to bookmark the link that redirects to the landing page.

In IE you can do this with a link by right-clicking and selecting "Add to favorites"

So you could bookmark this redirecting link to amazon that way:

Sorry to be tiresome, but I still don't understand why you wouldn't just clock in at the homepage when you are interested in getting books. I am missing why clicking favorites, given it works as craven shows how, is preferable.

Do you want it to recognize your username? the homepage link recognizes mine, as does just going to google, which doesn't benefit a2k.

Is it too easy to go to the homepage?

Not to badger you, Noddy, just trying to understand.

Ossobuco--

Most of the time I buy books like a lady, with due deliberation and full memory of the Amazon link on the A2K home page.

Every so often, I flounce and sniff and sail into a snit and buy books from my "Favorites" link without a thought of improving the world or pleasing anyone but myself.

I spend a lot of time out-thinking me.

Link to double check:

They don't look the same.....perhaps I should grow up.

I laugh (with you, not against) as it welcomes me as me with my real name...) but no, doesn't have the a2k (awk) cookie.

I just went through a pre Christmas spasm of gifting relatives and myself via amazon a2k. I am surely unusual in that I buy books used more often than not, many times for reasons other that sheer cheapness, but also because I'm cheap. The Giuliano Bugialli book is not available new in hardback and that's the one I like...

So I ordered around nine books from several used book sources to go to several addresses through amazon/a2k and got multiple notices of thank you for your buying, and did you get it and were you happy types. Ahhh, it's all ok. I like used books flying about.

Craven--

Ta-dah! This time I right clicked.

Ossobuco--

Amazon recognized me through the A2K link.

I've just recently started buying second hand paperbacks through Amazon--and am shocked to see some used paperbacks that originally retailed for $4.99 are now $25 or $35 or even $65 and up.

I buy many more paperbacks than hardbacks--I'm delighted that Amazon has started discounting mass market paperbacks again.

Shipping prices can get you and I'd be remiss not to mention Powells if you are keen on used, as they have free shipping if you do over $50. But by and large I use amazon through a2k as much as I can for books, and, I am beginning to look for other items through them too.

msolga

Now that I analyze my behavior its the "other items" that I'm gypping A2K of the rake-off.

One of my goals for 2005 is Fool Proofing.
