I think you people need a queen all to yourselves. You're bigger and shouldn't have to share.

Many of Australia's most iconic films have one thing in common: Bill Hunter, who has died at the age of 71.

The screen legend passed away on Saturday night surrounded by family and friends at a Melbourne hospice after a battle with cancer.

A stalwart of the Australian film industry, his 100-plus movie and television credits read like a potted history of home-grown film and television.

Hunter will be remembered by his myriad of fans for his frequent turns as the archetypal gruff but lovable Australian bloke. ..... <cont>

Nothing to do with what we've been discussing, but I heard this on ABC radio this afternoon.
And was a bit .. I don't know ... amazed? Smile

@dlowan,
Really, Deb? Surprised
I'd never heard it before today.
What a funny little song!
I'll bet it was a real show stopper in Gatorsburg!

While I was looking for that, I came across a Monty Python sketch about the Philosophy Department at The Australian University of Australia. Smile
All the tutors were named "Bruce" & they were welcoming a new "pommie bastard" who they decided to also call Bruce to avoid confusion.

I was going to post it (very funny) until .... there was a short bit with an aboriginal person which could/would have been construed as "black face". Just a fleeting unnecessary moment which could easily have been excluded ...
Then a reference to the Philosophy department "rules", three of which were "no poofters".
That sealed it be me.
Not going to go there!
Interesting, isn't it, how a Monty Python sketch, which would have been considered so funny at the time, can now be so offensive, to some?
Actually, if anyone should have been offended by it, it would have been Australians, for the stereotyping!
But we would have laughed at ourselves & the silly way we were presented (by pommies) , I'm sure .
Funny, that.

@hingehead,
'Antipodean Atrocities' sounds like a terrific listen, hinge.
Only when one is in that sort of mood, of course!

Pardon my ignorance, but who is Midoztouch?
And s/he posts atrocious things online?
Tell us more!
I feel like I've missed something very important. Very Happy

@msolga,
Hi Olgs - I think it started out as a blog but then morphed into a discussion forum - I occasionally wander in as an observer - here's a link to the antipodean atrocities thread
