HI all
My boyfriend has applied to medical school at Flinders, and we are hoping he gets in! but if he does, we will be moving in december and we have a small dog (8lbs), and i hear its difficult to find rentals that allow pets. can anyone fill me in on how hard it really is? would it be impossible? would i be dumb to move there and then look for a place? should i try to secure a rental before i come?
Any advice on this or other suggestions tips etc about adelaide or filnders would be great. thanks in advance
Welcome to A2k - and Adelaide.
Well, the bad news is that it IS difficult to rent with pets.
You will have to rent a house - no unit or flat will allow it.
A SMALL dog is better - but, won't your pet be in quarantine for three months???
Do you have excellent references from previous rentals - especially re the dog?
I would try to secure a rental before you come - I mean - do you have somewhere to crash when you first get there? If not, you will need to try to get somewhere first.
At present, I am unsure if rentals are scarce, or plentiful.
The good news is that lots of people buy investment properties near Flinders - because of the number of students and staff at the nearby hospital.
Places near there are not fabulous generally - it is kind of a boring area, I think - but it is convenient - public transport and such is ok.
We have a small dog, shes only 8 lbs. i hear the quarentine is only 30 coming from the US is only 30 days
where is a good place to live thats close tro flinders by car? also, we would prefer a house anyways so it wud be better for us if we cud find a house. also will we need a car?
I do not know the quarantine period - you need to look it up. The size of the dog doesn't matter to quarantine! It is likely to help you renting wise, though - a little.
A car is definitely better in Adelaide - we are only one and a half million people - spread very wide, as Oz cities are - so public transport is nowhere as good as it is in densely populated areas.
What do you want in a suburb?
I am awful - I always live close to the city and commute to where I work a long way - I do not want to live in the burbs!
What is important to YOU? Adeliade is not hard to commute in by car - so you may choose to live farther from work, and closer to things like the beach, or the city, or the country....
well i guess we were thinking bout adelaide because we just dont know where else we could live that would be a close commute and be safe.
i checked with the aussie govt websites and they say quarentine is 30 days so whew, im relieved. we have family in sydny so we do have a place to stay but sydney is quite far from where the school is.
ideally i would love to have a rental before moving but i dont know how i feel about renting a place ive never seen in person. at any rate, thanks for the advice if you have any other tips pls let me know
Hi there...not sure if this will help at all but thought I'd give my opinion as a person that just got back from Adelaide.
I personally would live closer into the city...my BF is in Seaton and I just loved being able to jump into the car and be in the city in a matter of minutes. There was also good public transport from Seaton. Not sure if this helps you or not...hopefully it does.
Good luck in whatever you decide.
Hmmm - well, Seaton is a loooooong way from Flinders University and Medical Centre - but a more inner SOUTHERN suburb might well be nice. As said earlier, Cyraym, if you say what you would like in a suburb, I am happy to try and advise you further.
Welcome, Sailaway - hope you liked your stay!
well, i would be looking for a place that is close to school so that my boyfriend wont have to worry about a long commute. a 30 min car or train ride one way would be the farthest we would like. we are looking for something safe, and we would want a house not an apartment. a neigbhourhood that is dog friendly would also be great!
