Shewolf, when you pick another internet service and take aol off your computer, consider getting advice from the computer forum on getting rid, or, hey, here in this thread, for getting rid of every little smidgeon of aol-ness. (I seem to remember hearing that that is important, could of course be wrong.)

no osso. you are not wrong. Aol is like a virus. It consumes any and all internet ports and usually does so by the OK of the user. Simply because it asks questions on the start-up/install that noone can understand so assuming the best, you click yes to all the questions. By then it has dominated your computer .
I worked for aol for 2 months when i was 24. that was when aol was in its hay-day. 24 some million subscribers. I only lasted 2 months because of the company -ethics- Aol was pumping out millionaires like crazy ! about 60% of them were former employees being granted stocks for thier ' saves' ( saves= people you kept on the service when they called to cancel ) Best paid group of phone salesmen I have seen in my LIFE. I was making 40,000 a year and I was giving NO effort.

I learned alot about the aol program. I have to say, even to this DAY I am impressed with what it has to offer. I just hate the service, quality, set up, etc etc etc. Now all the other isp's are catching up and running circles around AOL , it is just a joke ISP. but.. being a sucker, I fell for it again.. >sigh<

Everything they provide you can get easily and free, and they charge you for it.

Here's what you do: get an account with time-warner cable. A cheap one, don't let them sell you extras. Then just download a free version of an internet browser like netscape or explorer, if you don't already have one.

AOL is a scam to trick people who don't know how to use the internet into handing over their money.

And don't even mess with Netscape or IE, go to Mozilla site and get Firefox, you'll have far less bugs in your computer.

I have Yahoo SBC DSL and I love it. It's as fast as cable modem at 3/4 (ok like a little more than half....) of the price. You do have to be remotely near a facitlity for it to function properly but otherwise, i think it is fricken fabulous. Comcast Cable can kiss my ass and the $65 they wanted for internet service goodbye!!

Bingo portal. Yesterday my g/f and I started weaning her off AOL and MSN...that's $50 a month...then there's the dedicated phone line..$24 a month...total $74!

We signed up for an extra output on the high speed cable account....I believe it's $24.95 a month...big savings at 10 times the speed.

Bye Bye AOL and MSN ...goodbye to 2 phone lines....
