Joan of Arc is considered crazy by Psychiatry. Because she listened voices and saw figures. For whom do'nt know Joan of Arc was born in France in the year 1412 and died in 1431. She was an important figure in French history during the Hundred Years' War (1337-1453). Joan of Arc was not schizophrenic, she was sensitive, that is, she saw and listened souls. Sensitive woman or medium she received orientations of "superior" souls to liberate France of the English domain. For France, later, fulfill its role: Democracy, Enlightenment, etc.
@jaydonbrodie,
Maybe a better question is: Are people 'crazy' who worry about the the mental classification of charismatic historical figures?
As far as 'hearing voices' is concerned, why stop with Joan ? Why not go back to Abraham, or Noah, or Moses ?
Its a well known anthropological fact that what counts for 'crazy' in Western society where it results in 'treatment', can be an advantage in other cultures often resulting in the authoritive position of 'witch doctor'.
