Hmmmmmmmmmmmm ....

Well, the Premier of Queensland appears to have given $20 million towards cutting hospital waiting lists! Nothing like stating the obvious, hey panzade! Laughing This may be a con job, I don't know. Razz

Here's the problem:

* Queensland is in the north of Oz. Victoria (where I am) is in the south. It is hard to figure out from here what Peter Beattie has actually done & why.
* Peter Beattie was a political media person/animal. A master of spin. All my search activities came up with was government press releases about what a great thing his government had done! Razz Obviously the cartoonist thought there was something *interesting* happening here! But what? Confused
* I'm afraid we're going to ask for the services of Queenslanders to get to the bottom of this. Dear Deb, could you ask your special friend? Or hinge (recently moved to the far north of QLD) are you in any position to comment?
* Trying to figure this one out just reinforces the view of anyone who doesn't live in Victoria or New South Wales in Oz .... >>> We (in the named states) are up ourselves & think the whole country revolves around us! Razz

How's that for a response, then?

simple enough to be puzzling...complicated enough to be beguiling.

I read the cartoon as only two million parcelled out for a major clean up job.

The Oz Prime Minister continues to struggle & resist uttering the "S" word. Meanwhile, there's been a hefty accumulation of reasons to say "sorry". What a man! Rolling Eyes

Do you have this confrontation between individual rights and exploitation of children there msolga?

Do you know who LeTourneau is?

Yes, I know who she is. I know the basic details of the case, her gaol term & planned marriage, etc. I just can't comprehend an adult (teacher) feeling like that about a child (student). Children get crushes on teachers all the time, but that's how I'd see the child's side of such a relationship.
I'm not aware of there being any perceived conflict here between an adult's individual rights & the exploitation of children in a similar situation here in Oz. LeTourneau would be seen as a person who has abused a position of trust & as breaking the law. Lately we've had a number of very public court cases involving teachers who have had sexual relationships with their students. No public sympathy or acceptance of their "rights" what-so-ever.
