Muslim guy, Morroccan kid (talking in Dutch): "Infidel whores and homos! You'll burn in hell"
Dutch guy and gal (ditto): "Bugger off! C*nt Morrocans!"
Third Dutch person: "Ah, isnt it great! Dutch [being spoken] on the street!"

This cartoon appeared in the 26th edition of the anti-Semitic weekly, "Der Sturmer", in 1934. It reads, "The Spider. Many victims are trapped in the web, caught by flattering words. Rip the web of deceit and free German youth."

I've always sneered at the 1940s German, Dutch, polish ect public who said they didn't see the extermination of the jews coming.

I'm not sure about the connection you're making between nimh's cartoon & that anti-semitic one from 1934. But, maybe I'm not being all that perceptive? Or maybe I've gotten my wires crossed here? Maybe I'm not too sharp after a hard day at work?

I guess context is all. Nimh's post was a cartoonist's response to a (nationalistic/racist/opportunistic?) politician's call for everyone on Holland to "speak Dutch in public." The cartoon was a very funny response, I thought. And it injected some much needed reality & humour into the situation.

That 1934 cartoon you've posted is dreadful. Evil. Ugly politics. (The one after that didn't materialize on my computer. Got the little box & the red X)

Can you expand on what you're saying in this post. I really don't get it.

sorry man,
I guess I just thought how similar the actual drawings are (face shape, stance of the muslims in the cartoon compared to cartoons drawn by nazis as propoganda against the jews)

It worries me.
I wasn't saying anything to Nimh, personally.
I wasn't thinking straight- that's all.

Thanks for going easy on me.
Endy

Nah, Endy, trust me, that would be one of the very last things nimh would ever have done. No, hang on, he'd never post anything with the aim of promoting hate or provocation. Of that I'm absolutely certain. He's a beacon of sanity, fairness & racial tolerance, trust me! Very Happy

Maybe part of the misunderstanding (for you) was that I didn't re-post the text nimh had posted along with that cartoon? It would have made the context very clear. Me, I just assumed that everyone was reading along through the thread & would clearly understand why I thought that cartoon was so funny. Maybe one should be a little more careful about these things in these extremely touchy times?

Those 1930s anti-Jewish cartoons are very frightening. As these are very frightening times, right now. <sigh>

But it's amazing, isn't it, just how much influence political cartoonists can actually have?

I think the two cartoons are very different indeed. In your example a naturalistically drawn "arian" lady is threathened by a caricaturised spider. In the other cartoon everybody is caricaturised.
