Thanks for edifying Set. It was a companion cartoon to msolga's. The cost of the Iraqui adventure is made even more dear by the plunging dollar.

(The same theme in all 3 major Oz newspapers in the eastern states today. Maybe the cartoonists conferred last night?)

That second cartoon reminds me of that famous quip of "Red" Ken Livingstone's, when he returned as mayor of London - just because of the line used.

Madame Thatcher had broken up the entire Greater London Authority he presided over in the early 80s, just to get rid of those bothersome lefties. Then under Blair I, the idea to reinstall an overall London mayor emerged - but instead of Blair's favourite, Livingstone won in a rebel campaign.

When, the night of the election when the results had come in, he walked up the stage under roaring applause and stepped up to the microphone, his first line was: ""As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted, 14 years ago..."

Edinburgh: More than 200,000 campaigners formed a human chain around Scotland's medieval capital, demanding that the world's most powerful nations lift Africa out of poverty.

WORDS AGAINST POVERTY
July 4, 2005
http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2005/07/03/wbmandela_wideweb__430x299.jpg

NELSON MANDELA (Johannesburg)

"Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity, it is an act of justice. It is a protection of a fundamental human right.

"I say to all those leaders, do not look the other way. Do not hesitate. We ask our leaders to demonstrate commitment, not engage in hollow promises. It is within your power to avoid a genocide of humanity.".. <cont>

This is so sad msolga. You made a wonderful thread.

Sometimes I get so angry at the terrible things that are happening in the world. But, I try to channel it in some creative way, and it helps a little.

Last night I watched thousands of dollars worth of fireworks going up in smoke in our little neighborhood. Just wish we could take all the money we spend on fireworks and put it towards lowering the number of aids
victims in Africa.

Where is the money these organizations collect for the poor, and starving children of the world? I don't trust none of them.
