I'm spending one of many New Years Eve home with mom, but it doesn't bother me.

I have to say that my worst was when I was 19. I was at a party with my friends, while my boyfriend ( the man that asked me to marry him ) was at a party with his friends and when I called him at midnight to say Happy New Year, he broke up with me. That sucked!

I got grounded for spending money on clothes (500 bucks =/). I was only supposed to spend 100 but i couldn't help myself. So for the shopping spree (with my own money) i get grounded. My first new years in this new town and its a crappy one. But hey i have a couple new cds, a 24-pack of cream soda and a dvd player. I'll survive.

Well, it was not much of a New Year's Eve for me, but there was a first. I actually was still awake when the ball came down, which is quite an accomplishment for me.

I didn't drink. My husband pulled his back out. He had taken so many pain killers, that if he drank, I probably would have spent the first day of 2005 in the E.R., and I really did not want to do that. And I didn't want to drink alone.

We watched a movie called, "Happiness", which was lying around with some of our old VHS tapes.

Link to "Happiness"

I loved the film, which I think tells you something about my weird sense of humor! Laughing

We have not gone out on New Year's Eve in a number of years. We had a group in my neighborhood with whom we used to celebrate, but it has just about broken up................relocation, death, etc. Besides, I really did not want to face the drunken drivers out in the streets.

Went to bed at about 1AM, but as usual, I am up at the crack of dawn.

Two years ago was a pretty stressful NYE ...

Then there was the day after we heard my mum died, NYE nine years ago, and she was still on another continent ... that sucked, too.

Kicky, don't be so hard on yourself, lil' fella. You need a good hair tosslin'.

Kicky is probably passed out in his living room, fully dressed, ashtray overflowed, 17 empty cans of beer at his feet, with an internet porn site on his computer screen and pictures of his ex-girlfriend strewn all over the floor.

How about a New Years Day depressing story? Living in So Calif affords me the opportunity to drive over to Pasadena and catch some of the Rose Bowl Parade. It truly is a spectacle for the senses. The sights, smells, and auditory blasts definitely get your attention. Starting with a flybye of the Air Force B-2 stealth bomber. This flying wing rumbles over Colorado Blvd at a very low attitude and even this old geezer gets goose bumps. You think, my god the technology this country is able to produce..Driving home, I think this aircraft is a killing machine....It was designed to basically kill as many people as possible. I'm torn. All this country could do, yet after all these years of "civilization", the world is basically still involved in tribal warefare.............................?

I would have preferred "Happiness."

But, NOOOO! Littlest Cub had to get "Texas Chainsaw Massacre."

Middle Cub got "Saved"

Oldest got "Scream."

Saved wasn't too bad if you take it all tongue in cheek.

But, I'll never sleep with both eyes closed again after TCM!!

Happiness was a cool movie. Well weird - the three of us came out of the movie looking at each other, and looking again, and not knowing what to think or say or do - just, Shocked - but I thought it was really good ...

most depressing new year's is spending it with a lot of loud people you don't want to be with in the first place. happened to me more than once. this year i just had littlek and three other friends over for a movie - Big Fish, and a quiet chat and snacking. Loved it.

I think I had 2 beers at Dasha's and one beer here at home. I was playing Syberia when midnight came and went.

I watched a really dumb movie (which I enjoyed immensely), then I went for a walk around midnight. At the stroke of midnight I was at the Plaza hotel. I walked back home up Fifth avenue along central park as the fireworks went off in the park near me. Pretty cool.

Early in the night, I was thinking, "screw it, I'm alone on New Year's Eve--I'm going to get drunk by myself and wallow in self-pity!" But, I didn't drink at all, which is good. I'm sure it would have been a suck-ass night if I had gotten drunk alone.

I finished reading the second volume of a fantasy trilogy and was in bed by 10:55.

I was happy to see the end of 2004 and know that I'd survived.

Have you got people walking around or drinking on their own on NYE there? It's such a group thing here, I didnt see anyone on their own out on the street (I mean after the half hour of fireworks or something). I think it would really kinda take guts to go out to some pub or club by your own at/after midnight (specially since you dont get in anywhere without expensive ticket, & all the good places are sold out in advance too).

I ended up going dancing last year after I'd spent walking round town with a friend an hour or two and she'd gone home to bed - but by then it was four something, so nobody really noticed anymore. But still I musta been pretty much the only one.

Perhaps its a mindset tho. I remember I was out on my own all night one night, eh - (god) - twelve years ago? My then-gf and I were gonna meet up in either Place 1 or Place 2 after midnight (back then you just lined up outside, no presale), and of course she ended up at Place 1 and me at Place 2, but we still both had a great night. Both got hit on by a girl as well, funnily enough. So back then it worked fine ... huh (dunno).

I guess in NY (or Amsterdam or something) you get lots of foreigners and visitors tho, out there for business or just holidays, so that already must make it different ...
