@machelle50,
ohhh thank you for the explanation!
The current prize for the first 250 correct entries is a Dr Sloth Beanie. You will also get a cool trophy that people can see when they do a user lookup on you! And all correct entries will split the 2,000,000 Neopoint prize pool.
THIS WEEKS PUZZLE - ends Next Wednesday, most likely

Once you decipher this phrase, where would you find it in Neopia?
OK, I guess I figured it out.
(hint: the prize is a clue)
Thank you for submitting your answer
Good luck!!
direct letter for letter substition
idk if i should have submitted the land (ie: faerieland) or actual place w/in the land (ie: healing springs) *Both answers are wrong, this is just an example* I went with the 1st option... Knowing my luck, it would have been the 2nd part.... aye, aye, aye lol
@Whohater,
Oh, i picked the place within the land. One of us is going to be wrong :/
I still haven't gotten the answer. xP
I've searched all sloth related things I can think of (which is what I'm guessing you mean from your hint) but I can't find it e_______e
Once you decipher this phrase, where would you find it in Neopia?
Does this mean world, or the object itself? Because it doesn't really say what it is, it just describes it... Should I put the name of the... thing it's describing, or the world??? I'm... I don't know. Part of me wants to put the world, but another wants to put the object itself...
Hint: m, g, and h are the same. Something in the sentence was a dead give away for me... But this hint I'm giving you isn't much...
I used the cryptogram solver at
http://www.blisstonia.com/software/WebDecrypto/index.php. It immediately popped out "AN EVIL MECHANICAL HAND EMERGES FROM A PANEL AND STEALS 100 NEOPOINTS FROM YOU!!", which occurs when you pull the "Lever of Doom", which was the correct answer.
@lennyfan,
what, they have cryptogram solvers? i guess that explains why so many people got it, and it also might be why i didn't get a gold trophy this week. :/ i solved it 5 minutes after it showed on the news, and i was positive i would get one
here is a new one:
Suppose there's a cannon placed at the base of Terror Mountain. We tilt the cannon at a 45-degree angle, in the direction of the top of the mountain, and fire the 6-kg cannonball. The cannonball exits the cannon at a velocity of 300 metres per second.
Terror Mountain rises at a slope of 30 degrees. Assuming that gravitational acceleration is 9.8 metres per second per second, and disregarding air resistance and the height of the cannon (in other words, assume the cannon opening is at elevation zero), and at what elevation, in metres, will the cannonball strike the side of the mountain? Please round to the nearest metre, and submit only a number with no other information.
@beebzzz,
i played a bit with numbers in excel and got a 4 digit solution, sum of digits = 9
I got 4 digits, sum of 19.
The ball is shot at an angle of 45 degrees to the ground with a velocity of 300 m/s. We should be able to split that initial velocity into horizontal and vertical components by dividing the the 300 by the square root of 2, since we have a 45 degree triangle to work with. The horizontal velocity should stay constant until it hits something, assuming no air resistance.
So at t seconds, the horizontal distance is d = 150*sqrt(2)*t.
The vertical velocity will be decreasing at the rate of 9.8 m/s. So the velocity at time t will be 150*sqrt(2) - 9.8*t. Integrating this to get the height, we get h = 150 * sqrt(2) * t - (1/2) * 9.8 * t^2 = 150 * sqrt(2) * t - 4.9 * t^2.
Now Terror Mountain rises at a rate of 30 degrees, so the height at any distance into the mountain is double the distance into the mountain. (A 30-60-90 triangle has a ratio of its sides of 1:2:sqrt(3).) So when the cannonball hits the side of the mountain, h = (1/2) * d.
So I solved for t, substituted back into the formula for h, and came up with my answer.
AW! I put Virtupets Space Station. -frownyface- (For last week)
anyways... i don't like maht.. I have to do math every single day.. rargh.
Meh. I don't get this. not doing it. awe...
@lennyfan,
Hey, lennyfan, I think you got the ratios of the triangle out of order. (Made the same mistake myself and just caught it.) A 30-60-90 triangle has a ratio of the sides of 1 : sqrt(3) : 2. So when the cannonball hits the mountain, h = (1 / sqrt(3)) * d instead of (1/2) * d.
I get 4 digits with a sum of 9.
@edstock,
Ah, looks like you're right. Okay, 4 digits with a sum of 9, agreed.
@lennyfan,
Wait, how did you figure out t? that's the bit I don't get.
