OMG it's suppose to be 9 secs... rounding up :/ me fail
Me fail even more LOL i took apothem as area.
I got half a minute now.
@lennyfan,
lennyfan. You are on the right track. Dig out your calculus books folks and look up integrals on acceleration, velocity and distance. In this case, you can substitute distance with volume (they are just titles). If acceleration is 1, what is the velocity (do integral) and then what is volume (do another integral).
@fozzieb27,
Thanks, but I'm fine - I submitted my answer in the first 15 minutes. I was just responding to questions about someone else's iterative solution. Your hints parallel exactly what I did.
I hope there was more than one method of doing this, 'cause I didn't use any advance math. :/
Past noon and the LC is still open. They are seriously carrying this one over another week?
@beebzzz,
Looks like it. That was a pretty straight-forward problem, so I doubt we have a case where no one solved it.
@lennyfan,
i guess they are busy with something else, probably the plot.
lennyfan, I never thanked you for the help, so thanks!
Has anyone gotten an email yet?
News is out, they've extended the deadline. Does that mean no one got it right, or they were just too lazy to sort through them this week??
they were prolly just too busy with the plot this week.
the news does not say that no one got it correct -- only that the deadline was extended. also, you may not submit a new answer this week, like you would typically be able to if no one had gotten it.
I flipped my Calculus textbook to the Related Rates chapter, and managed to solve it within 10 minutes.
If anyone else has a simpler solution, do share it after the answer has been announced.
i asked some of my friends and we all got around 95 seconds
answer MUST have been 91, I got my congratulations neo-mail just now
Dear steve,
Congratulations! You have guessed correctly in the Lenny Conundrum game (round 378). You have won 714 NP!
Yours Sincerely,
The Neopets Team!
THIS WEEKS PUZZLE - ends Next Wednesday, most likely
It's Neopets's birthday! To celebrate, there was a lavish ceremony where one of each Neopet species attended. Each one of the Neopets blew out candles on the gigantic cake. The number of candles each blew out is as follows: they blew out one candle for each year that Neopets has been around, plus one candle for each letter in their species name. After all the pets blew out their candles, there were twelve candles still lit.
How many candles were on the cake? Assume that all of the candles were initially lit.
I've got my answer but I couldn't be bothered double checking. Does anyone want to compare? I have seen people do the sum of their answers but I'm not sure whether it would be obvious what the answer was from that.
@beebzzz,
i got it in under than a minute
I don't know when the news came out to judge how long it took. Maybe I should have double checked as my sum wasn't 13
