Ok so I figured out the question....
So does popular mean the most people that have it or the most people that want it?
I went with the basic colours...every pet starts as one of those four anyway so technically there Have been more of those than any other colour, even though a lot of pets don't stay that way very long

I didn't obtain the same answer, care to explain how you did it ? I wasn't totally sure about the "cross-section" part as I'm french and wikipedia explainations aren't that detailed.
Since the shape is a hoop a plane cutting it in half would cut 2 times the tubular section so it's confusing. I ignored that fact for the answer tho and didn't divide the "cross section" in half.
