Base 36 means all the digits 0-9 AND letters A-Z are number values. Look up hexadecimal to get an idea of what I mean.

For example: "IXI" in base-36 is equal to 19 x 1296 + 34 x 36 + 19 = 24624 + 1224 + 19 = 25867

@Jen Aside,
I guess not being able to understand this made my brain just go "Poof". .. Why is the first I = 19 x 1296 but the second only 19?

@twinspt,
So NEOPETS is:

23*36^7 + 14*36^6 + 24*36^5 + 25*36^4 + 14*36^3 + 29*36^2 + 28*36?

@Vain,
this helps a lot? now we only need to try out all neopet's species names, and check if any of them are prime numbers/factors? oO

@hoshi,
That's ok for the first part of the question, but I don't see how we can do the prime factors part without a whole lot of work...

Does anyone see an easier way to do this problem besides figuring out ALL the base 10 equivalents of EVERY species name in base 36?

@Vain,
http://www.prime-numbers.org/
says the gelert number isn't prime. we can check at least shorter species' names there.
