I just got the neomail saying I got it right, and I answered 54. I wonder if they'll accept the "Hitchhiker's Guide" answer as well? The prize was very small -- just over 100 np, as I recall.

No notification... guess they were being mean to us fans =(

You have four numbers: 553, 546, 897, and 318. However, the numbers aren't what they seem. One of the numbers (I'm not telling you which!) is actually in base 13, one is in base 17, one is in base 19, and one is in base 23. It's just coincidence that all four numbers only use digits 9 and below.

Now, if you add all four numbers and convert them to base 32 notation, the resulting number can also be written only using digits 0-9. What is that sum, as denoted in base 32? For example, if the sum in base 10 was 288, you would submit the base 32 answer: 90.

It's not logs. It's rewriting in a different base system. (Binary is base 2 for example.)

All of your calculations are correct
ie: 913 in base 13 would be written as 553, 2743 in base 23 would be written as 546.
But i haven't checked if that's the only possible solution.

That's what I got. I doubled checked with a couple of different calculators so it should be right.

Yeah, 726 is right.

Sigh.. I came up with a different answer. When I went back to figure out why, I realized I had typed the first number into Excel as 533 instead of 553. I double checked my math several times, but I didn't check the basic numbers I was working with. Dammit.

There's a lesson in there somewhere. LOL.

Ah, a nice straight-forward math problem. Find the base 10 conversion from each of the four numbers, presuming base 13, 17, 19 and 23 for each. Add up each of the 24 possible combinations, then convert each to base 32. See which one number of the 24 uses only digits from 0-9 and voila, there is your answer.

Nope they didnt take the "42" as a answer to last weeks. I thought maybe tnt was trying to be funny and looked for the gag or twist in the question. Knowing the show well I thought hmmm maybe, but tnt have not paid out on it at all, even thou the answer can be proven to also be correct. Oh well maybe next week have not had time to think on this weeks and prob wont have a head for it as I have a bad head cold

This week's actually does use different bases. Who knows, maybe they got the idea from so many people submitting 42 last week.
