Well, I just went to check the New Features - I had to get up at 7 am, so I coulnd't stay up all night to see the new LC, so I wanted to check now. But the news desn't say anything about the end of this LC, or about extending it. Very confusing! Usually, the new one would have started by now, or they would have said that they were extending it in the NF.
Maybe they just forgot to put it on the NF?

I just hope they post the new one QUICKLY! I don't have to get up 'till 12 PM tomorrow, but it's already 7:35 and I have homework to do - I'm doing it right now to get it out of the way - and I reeeeeeeeeaaaaally want to be a part of solving it from the get go! It's no fun going inhere tomorrow and reading how you solved it and then submitting the answer if I get it.
If I don't get how it was solved, I don't submit an answer. I don't think I deserve any reward, not even the neopoints, if I don't understand the solution. Seems unfair to those who worked it out, I think.
2104 NPs each! That means only 951 people submitted the correct answer. This certainly was a tough one - I'm guessing many people jumped the gun and submitted a wrong guess.
Now that the judging has taken place, it is probably time to post a detailed description of the solution.
First, you need to understand what the ^ symbol for exponentiation means. If you see a^n, it means to multiply a times itself n times, so for this week's problem, we have:
2^2 = 2 * 2 = 4 (where * means multiplication)
3^3 = 3 * 3 * 3 = 9 * 3 = 27
4^4 = 4 * 4 * 4 * 4 = 256
5^5 = 3125
6^6 = 46656, and
7^7 = 823543
The hourly numbers (in cubic inches) that the Symols dug out were: 427, 256, 312, 546, 656, and 823.
The key is to put these numbers all in a row, with no spaces:
427256312546656823
When you do the same thing (put them in a row with no spaces) with the values of 2^2 through 7^7, you get:
427256312546656823543
There are 3 extra digits on the second set of numbers, so the number of cubic inches dug in the 7th hour was 543.
Adding the first 6 numbers plus 543 gives the answer of 3563.
Yes this was a tough one - because is was one of those 'can't see the forest for all the trees'.
Oh man I hate tonight.. The combination of two history papers, spanish homework and three hours of TV I want to watch, and a new LC coming up is NOT good. My head already hurts, and I haven't finished any of the homework, and only one hour of TV is over.. Plus I have laundry to do. Good thing my classes are starting late on thursdays, I don't have to go to bed before 2 or 3 AM. Still, what a day.

The only thing I can see that ties Shenkuu and Altador together is that they have the same amount of letters.
hmmm just a note of interest, shenkuu and altador both have 7 letters, and their score is the same too!

using the phone and the alphabet..neither worked.
Well, giving the letters a numeral value based on their place in the alphabet an adding the numbers surely isn't the way to go - unless you then were to divide it by the number of letters in the word. Maybe I should just try that.. (I'm just chosing to ignore the fact that I still have one history paper and spanish homework to to)
