In the Art Gallery is a new conceptual art piece. The artist created a huge pile different paintings; periodically he picks up one of the paintings and hangs it on the wall, and adjusts it.
At 11:00, the painting titled "Number 30" was hung.
At 4:00, the painting titled "Number 240" was hung.
At 7:30, the painting titled "Number 315" was hung.
What painting will the artist hang on the wall at
cousins?
any help?

I have no clue where to start with this one. =o(
It has to do with angles, I'm almost 100% certain.
at 11:00, it forms a 30 degree angle, etc.
lc
but obtuse or acute?
looking at their pattern id guess obtuse....
I thought it might have something to do with angles too.
P.S. I'm a new member
First one I've thought was easy
That means I've probably got it wrong.
I think it's the angle between where the hour hand is to where the minute hand is, in a clockwise direction.
The 7:30, 315 thing has thrown me off. I can't find a pattern.
Remember by 7.30 the hour hand has moved in between 7 and 8, therefore -15 degrees.
Can't be. Four O'clock would be 120 degrees. That's twice the degrees though. 7:30 would be 135 or 225 degrees.
Sorry! My mistake. 7:30 would be 45 degrees.
I have a program that tells what the hour angle is, the minute angle, and the angle between the two hands.
At 7:30, the hour angle is 225, the minute is 180 and the inside angle is -45 degrees.
That makes 360 degrees in total. I think every combination will though.
-45... or 360-45=315!
Does your program verify the rest of the angles too?
If so, make it calculate the angles at 9:20!

You basically tell it the time, and it outputs all the angle information. It says for 9:20 that the distance between the two hands (or the inside angle) is -160. Would that make it 200 then?
I added the negative 45 and that's what made 360.

Each number = 30 degrees, so 4 to 12 = 8 X 30 = 240
It has to do with 360.
11 is 30 because it's positive. 4 is 240 because it's 360 + -120 (the inside angle)
7:30 is 315 because it's 360 + -45 (the inside angle).
Hence, 9:20 is 200 because it's 360 + -160. =o)
So, I'm guessing the 360 did help some. I'm glad I figured something out, even if it was in a fairly useless manner. I'm still glad I thought of it.

Me too! I was totally clueless and it was RIGHT in front of my eyes.
Ok. It's basically angle between hour hand and minute hand. Imagine the clock:
At 11:00 if you go from hour hand to minute hand moving clockwise you will make a 30degree arch.
At: 4:00 going from hour to minute is 240degrees..
At 7:30 its almost a full turn, hence 315degrees...
Now at 9:20, it is also the big run around the clock, so 200 gotta be it.
Now to format of answer...
I'm submitting "Number 200" without quotes. Since the question was what painting he will hang, and the names of the paintings seem to be "Number xxx". Rather than saying they hang painting number xxx without quotes...
