Quote:
but the question said: What are the odds that, upon rolling the five dice, you would be able to spell the name of a Neopet species with some or all of the letters displayed on the dice? ... it says odds... so should we be trying to use the possible:impossible equation?

Sorry Dear.. English is not my original lenguaje. Its really hard to me to understand that complicated cuestions! *lol* see you next week

1/7776 + 1/7776 + 1/216 + 1/1296

7776 divided by 216 = 36
7776 divided by 1296 = 6

1/7776 + 1/7776 + 36/7776 + 6/7776
=44/7776

(44/44=1, 7776/44=176.7272)

=1/177

Congratulations! You have guessed correctly in the Lenny Conundrum game (round 221). You have won 793 NP!

Because you were in the first 250 to guess correctly, you also have been awarded a Ten Dubloon Coin, and receive a trophy and the Lenny Conundrum avatar!

Yours Sincerely,
The Neopets Team!

Sorry I couldn't help this week I was out seeing the Harry Potter movie

Faulty Logic
The 177 number is incorrect, because it is not taking into account all of the possible permutations. Eyrie can happen 5*4*3*2 ways, so the chances of Eyrie by itself happening is 120/(6^5). Good luck all.

i think there is a major component to this problem that is being ignored: the fact that the dice can be rearranged in any order. So, the (1/6)^5 gives the possibility that the dice will land in a position that is not mixed up. However, there are 5!/2! combinations for the dice to be rearranged for a 5 letter name.

Also...the fact that KOI is also in the word KIKO...

I just gave up and guessed.

Ok, i'm new here but i have some clues for you guys because i see that you have no idea of what is happening xD

We have 6 dices...
Chances that Eyrie Happen (order doesn't matter) is:
4x4x3x2x1x6!!!!
First you have 4 chances of getting any desired letter: E, Y, R, I (K & O doesn't work in this case)
Next you have again 4 oportunities: E (that can be doubled), Y, R, I
Next you have 3 oportunities: If you got EE previously you can get: YRI, if you got EY you can get: EIR, and so on
Next you have 2 posibilities: one of the two letters that last
And finally you only have one chance of getting what you want
Lastly you MUST add the chances of getting ANYTHING in the last dice because we didn't use it doesn't mean we can ignore it
So you have 576 Oportunities that Eyrie Happen throwing 6 dice, ARE WE OK?
Next Kyrii
As explained above we have again 1 letter repeated so the formula is the same
4x4x3x2x1x6
Again 576 Oportunities
Ok, so far if Kyrii happen Eyrie can't happen so we can add the posibilities
So far we have 1152 (576x2) oportunities that we can get a neopet name from throwing 6 dices, isn't?
Now we have Kiko and Koi... but here, posibilities overlap, because each time you got Kiko you re also getting Koi, so we only need to calculate Koi and add that to our final oportunities
Koi is:
3x2x1x6x6x6
1296 oportunities that Koi happening in 6 dices
So finally we add all together (because Koi, Eyrie & Kirii can't happen at same time)
So we have 2448 chances of happening any neopet name in an universe of 6x6x6x6x6x6 differents options (46656)
Finally we must do 2448/46656 and round that number...
Odds = Probabilities (1 in 100 means 1 chance in a total of 100 posibilities, not 1 chance in 100 imposibilities)
So... good luck to anyone ^^
I hope i had helped a little bit...
Bye all

yo, you need to account for siutational overlaps in the die, the odds are fewer than 177 without a doubt
