A * [(B + C)^(D - E) - F^(G*H) ] / J =
2 * [(5 + 6) ^ (9 - 7) - 3^(1*4) ] / 8 =
2 * [( 11 ) ^ ( 2 ) - 3 ^ 4 ] / 8 =
2 * [ 121 - 81 ] / 8 = 2 * 40 / 8 = 10

You seem to think (from your previous posting) that there are square roots in the above formula, but, from what has been posted here and elsehwere, there aren't any.

It might be helpful if, instead of attacking people and making angry all-caps claims, you justified your statements, as have others.

Please reply showing your work and reasoning, including the step-by-step computations by which you arrived at your conclusions. Thank you for your consideration.

Eliz.

been awhile ok

You are confronted with the following formula:

A * [(B + C)(D - E) - F(G*H) ] / J = 10

Knowing that each variable is a unique, single-digit, nonzero number, and that C - B = 1, and H - G = 3, what is the number ABCDEFGHJ, where each letter is a digit? For example, if A = 4, B = 2, and C = 7, ABC would equal 427.

The ones underlined are in superscript supposedly so the answer is correct.
2* [(5+6)9-7 -3 1*4)]/8 = 10
2*[121-81]/8 = 10
2*40/8 = 10

yes it is correct.

also the person said it was multiplied by 8. bye the way this "/" sign means that it was divided by 8. if you wanted to multiply it would be this "*" sign. i checked the formula on paper and it came out correct as well

No, I knew that, I said multiplied by two, and I didnt mean square roots, I meant (still cant remember the name of them but the numbers to times a number by itself, however many times, lol)

I did all the work and I didnt get it to equa 10.... oh well, Guess I was wrong...

"Exponentiation", perhaps...?

Lol, you mean the POWER or EXPONENT, for example x to the power of y.

Raising something to a power or an exponent is called "exponentiation".

Are you asking what the question is? It's posted here.

Or are you asking what the answer is? It's posted here.

For future reference, that "Previous" button can be pretty darned handy. Rolling Eyes

What I want to know, even more than just getting the answer, is how people got it. I'm assuming some people wrote programs with certain constraints and such to find the answer, but the rest? Sadly, there were way too many combinations for me to get the answer on my own, even after narrowing the possibilities down with certain 'common sense' things.

New Lenny C is up!

A mysterious gypsy vendor lays out some coins. Each coin has a different letter on it laid out in the following order:

A C E L R N T U I S T Y N D E I L E R A R N A U M W O H A R R G D C I N G

"When you arrange these coins properly, it will spell out a question to which you must find the answer," the vendor advised you.

What is the answer?

ps: for the mystery pic a hint is to search all types of cards Smile
